Since we've been talking numbers the last couple post or so, here are some of the "to date" sales number from Japan as published recently by Media Create. we also have the hardware sales for the last week, with Sony's Portable gaining ground, and surpassing the DS's weekly sales figures.

Today, Japanese retail tracker Media Create has revealed that the system has sold a total of 100 million software units in Japan. The DS accomplished this feat in just three years and five months. By comparison, the ubiquitous PS2 console took four years and three months to achieve the 100 million software mark in Japan.

According to Media Create, the DS has launched a total of 922 titles in Japan since launching in the country. Out of those 922, 21 titles sold over one million units apiece. Furthermore, the handheld's software charts continue to be dominated by Nintendo. In fact, the top 10 best selling DS games of all time in Japan (posted below) are all first-party games with the exception of Pokemon, which is technically a different publisher.

The top 10 best selling are:

In related Japanese video game sales news, the latest Media Create rankings show that Sony's PSP is continuing its surge. For the week ended April 6 in Japan, the PSP sold more than twice as many DS units, and now for the week ended April 13, the data shows that PSP sold not quite double the number of DS units but still significantly more than any other game system.
