Here's Some Numbers for Ya - 04/2009
This week's Japanese software sales chart is packed with new games populating the top ten, with Atlus' redux remake of Persona for the PSP outselling all new competitors. The PlayStation Portable title, with its updated presentation and various refinements, bested new Nintendo DS games like Dragon Ball Z: Story Saiyajin Raishuu and Nintendo's latest WarioWare title Made in Ore. Last week's champ, Wii-make Monster Hunter G, showed decent legs, with sales reaching 172,000 in just two weeks on the market. The chart's influx of new titles pushed a few former top ten games (i.e. Killzone 2) out of more prominent spots, with Xbox 360 shoot 'em up Death Smiles disappearing from the Media Create chart altogether. Sold out or just burnt out? Japan's bestselling games are after this.
01. Persona (PSP) - 79,000 / NEW
11. Killzone 2 (PS3)
The figures were collected from the period beginning March 30 and ending on April 26. Here's the raw data:
1. Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Sora no Tankentai
2. Monster Hunter G
3. Sengoku BASARA Battle Heroes
4. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP the Best)
5. Mario & Luigi RPG3!!!
6. Pro Yakyuu Famista DS
7. MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM Senjyo no Kizuna Portable
8. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2009
9. Wii Fit
10. Killzone 2 April Sales via Famitsu It was a good week for Japanese video game hardware makers, as sales were up across the board, with the Nintendo DSi and Wii seeing the biggest boosts from the previous week. Nintendo's portable platform likely has Made in Ore, the newest do-it-yourself WarioWare game, and Dragon Ball Z to thank for its weekly uptick in sales. Similarly, the Wii is more than likely benefiting from continued solid sales of Monster Hunter G. While Capcom's Wii remake of the first PSP Monster Hunter isn't shattering records set by the original, things hardly seem dire. The Wii's boost in weekly sales puts it within spitting distance of the PlayStation 3. We'd expect the two to jockey for position on the charts, as a handful of interesting releases squeak out over the Summer.
