Japanese Sales Data Get 12/28/2009 - 01/03/2010With no new releases charting in Japan, it's another week for New Super Mario Bros. Wii to dominate the competition with another quarter million plus sold. What other Nintendo games are selling like gangbusters in Japan this week? The rest of the chart that isn't New Super Mario Bros. Wii looks like familiar stuff — Tomodachi Collection, Final Fantasy XIII, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Wii Fit Plus, et al. On a more exciting note, it looks like FFXIII will cross the 2 million sold mark in Japan before January ends, New Super Mario Bros. Wii passing 3 million, probably within the next five to ten minutes. And look! It's the return of Animal Crossing DS and Wii Play to the top thirty bestselling games in Japan, according to Media Create! Those are some legs... Anyway, here's the games that Japan snapped up for the week of December 28 to January 3, 2009. Hardware data to follow.. Also look forward to our year end totals due around the 14th of Jan.
01. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) - 268,000 / 2,708,000
11. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Yome! (Wii) Media Create Weekly Software Sales [Gpara] Japanese gamers rang in the New Year by buying more Wiis than any other console, giving Nintendo the biggest slice of the pie this past week. But the PlayStation family wasn't too far behind. The PSP and PlayStation 3 were behind the Wii, but sales were better than healthy for Sony, with the PlayStation maker moving more than 100,000 units of each during the first week of 2010. The Nintendo DS family—DS Lite, DSi and DSi LL—combined to sell another 224,000 portables in Japan during the week of December 28 to January 3, 2009. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 showed up, both outselling the last place PSPgo. At least the digital download only PlayStation Portable moved more this week than it did last.
