Media CreateIt's time for the weekly Japanese Media Create charts. The narrative is about the same as it has been for a while now: 3DS maintains a tight grip on the software chart, while the system is pretty much the only thing selling very sell in the hardware chart.

However, Mario Kart 7 was kept off the top of the chart for the first time in a few weeks by a new Super Robot Wars on PSP. Other notable new releases included Tecmo and Nintendo's Spirit Camera, which had a quiet opening week; and the 3DS debut of Namco Bandai's Ace Combat series, which seems to be finding its feet on a Nintendo platform.

The software chart for the week of January 9th to 15th is below.

The latest Media Create hardware numbers have been released, and they don’t look particularly pretty. Consoles sales are down across the board, with 61% fewer systems sold overall compared to last week.

The 3DS continues to lead the field by quite some margin, with the PS3 and PSP occupying second and third places respectively.

The PS Vita and Wii both registered sales of under 20k this week, which is an especially disappointing state of affairs for PSV considering that it’s still a shiny new piece of gaming hardware.

Even the most stalwart console on the list - the PS2 - slipped below 1 000 systems sold for the first time in recent memory.

Hardware Chart

  1. 3DS – 100,668
  2. PS3 – 30,332
  3. PSP – 22,538
  4. PS Vita - 18,361
  5. Wii – 14,179
  6. Xbox 360 – 1,519
  7. DSi LL – 1,515
  8. DSi – 1,206
  9. PS2 – 766
