Media Create Japanese Charts - Feb 19, 2012
This week’s Media Create software chart has a wide variety of genres represented in the top ten. Konami’s dating sim New Love Plus was released on Valentine’s Day and proved to be the biggest hit of the week - landing in first place with 104 969 units sold. Sega’s futuristic squad-based shooter Binary Domain was the week’s next best-performing title with 73 683 units sold. The game is developed by the newly formed Yakuza Studio led by industry veteran Toshihiro Nagoshi. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy took third spot to give the 3DS two out of three podium places. Putting classic Final Fantasy melodies in a rhythm game was a master stroke on Square Enix’s part and I’m sure this title will continue to sell well for quite some time. Here's the top twenty software chart covering February 13 through February 19, 2012. Publisher, release date and life-to-date sales are in parentheses.
In hardware, 3DS saw a major boost from the prior week, likely due to New Love Plus buyers, as the system was released in a variety of hardware bundles through Konami Style (these appear to be figured into Media Create's sales data, as the New Love Plus sales figure includes limited edition and bundle versions). Other platforms saw slight drops for the week. The Vita continued to inch its way to four digits. Here's the hardware chart for February 13 through February 19, 2012. Last week's sales are in parentheses.
