The Monster Hunter dynasty continues its proud rein in Japan this week with the latest entry in Capcom's beast slaying sensation managing to win over more PSP fans to its brand of hack and slash action.Media Create

Japanese Sales Charts Week Ending Dec 19, 2010

PPNSteve's picture

Despite major new entries in series like Gundam Musou and Inazuma Eleven, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd remained atop the Media Create top 10 this week, selling over 580,000 units to bring its sales total above the 3 million mark. This is the third week in a row at the top for Monster Hunter. Of particular note, the game remained basically level with last week's 630,000 units.Media Create

Also debuting in the top 10 this week were the PlayStation 3 version of Gundam Musou 3 in second (the Xbox 360 version did not place), Inazuma Eleven 3 The Ogre in third, and Shining Hearts in sixth.

The PS3 version of Castlevania Lords of Shadow debuted down at seventeen, despite a big push from Kojima Productions and the Metal Gear Solid voice cast. The dubbed version of Call of Duty Black Ops debuted at nineteen on the PS3. In contrast, the subtitled version, released last month, topped the charts then with 129,000 sales.

There's one notable absence from the top 20 this week. The Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII failed to make it into the top 20. Xbox 360 hardware was level with last week, suggesting that the RPG's release failed to push the system.

Here's the full Media Create top 20 for 12/13 to 12/19, as relayed through 4gamer. Total sales for older titles are in parentheses.

  1.  Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom, PSP): 581,543 (3,161,801)
  2.  Gundam Musou 3 (Namco Bandai, PS3): 185,908
  3.  Inazuma Eleven 3: The Ogre (Level-5, DS): 175,604
  4.  Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo, Wii): 152,990 (316,300)
  5.  Pokemon Black & White (Pokemon, DS): 115,438 (4,744,211)

  7.  Wii Party (Nintendo, Wii): 92,949 (1,411,824)
