Space and laser guns feature prominently in this week's PC sales
charts, last week's consumers opting for aliens and bright-coloured
uniforms over olive-grey outfits and the real world.

Least, they did on the whole. You have to overlook Bad Company 2 at
the #1 spot
on Steam if you want to think sci-fi games dominated the entire
charts. But look at Mass Effect! It's there six times on only two
charts.

Rob Bowling, community manager (Gamer / Geek / Creative Strategist at Infinity Ward... as he says on his Twitter page) at Infinity Ward was kind enough to guest on the panel on BASH Saturday, 17 October 2009. He let everyone in on the news that IW was taking Modern Warfare in a new direction.

The online game on PC has changed. Dedicated servers are out. IW.net is in.

With Empire: Total War nowhere to be seen on Direct2Drive's charts, there's only a single game that made the top 10 across all three outlets over the past few weeks. And it was Fallout 3!

Yes, Bethesda's RPG soldiers on, with more and more gamers each week drawn into its tale of post-apocalyptic intrigue and rat punching. Who knows. One day, it may stop inexplicably crashing and actually work on my PC.

NPD Charts May 10-16

Let's
congratulate Relic's Dawn of War II, which has, for the first time in recent memory, managed to come in to the top spot across all three charts.

That's
right. Dawn of War II stands astride the NPD, Steam and Direct2Drive
best-seller lists like a colossus, leaving even Sega's Empire: Total
War pre-sales in its dust. A big achievement, sure, but one the game most definitely deserves.
