Media Create Japanese Sales for week ending August 22, 2010

Bandai Namco’s Another Century’s Episode R for the PS3 is this weeks Japanese video game sales chart topper according to tracker, Media Create, selling about 220,000 copies and beating previous entries in the series first sales weeks by a fair margin. The game is the fourth entry in the action series featuring mechs and robots from various Japanese anime series like Mobile Suit Gundam, Macross Zero and Code Geass, and is the first entry on the PS3Media Create

After the success of Sengoku Basara 3 a few weeks ago and this week’s Another Century’s Episode R, Japanese publishers of smaller franchises such as these must be more optimistic about achieving success on PS3 as their recent PS3 instalments have sold more copies in their first weeks on sale than their previous PS2 ones.

Wii Party continues selling well for Nintendo, dropping 45% to 69,000 copies this week and falling to second place in the chart. Meanwhile Compile Heart’s Super Dimensional Game Neptune for PS3 sneaks in at number 3 with 23,000 copies sold in its first week. This game is certainly interesting and… different. It features four continents named Planetune, Lastation, Rinnebox and Ruwii in the world of Game Industry and is an RPG in which the goddesses of these continents battle each other in human form, hardware form or hardware personification form.

Level 5’s Inazuma Eleven 3 (NDS) continues selling well, dropping just 36% (remember last week was Obon, so most games got a boost to sales) to 18,000 for a total of almost 800k so far. Capcom’s Sengoku Basara 3 (PS3) continues its strong run with 18,000 copies sold this week for a total of just over 350 000. The rest of the top 10 is pretty uneventful, with most games falling one or two spots because of the new entries.

You can see the entire chart below:

Japanese Sales Data for Week Ending Aug 15, 2010

Nintendo's latest Wii hit shows its impressive legs once again this week, with mini-game collection Wii Party returning to its first place spot on the Japanese video game sales charts. Almost zero competition certainly helped.Media Create

Really. There wasn't much in the way of competition for Wii Party — or anything else for that matter. New PSP game Corpse Party: Blood Covered - Repeated Fear may have a great title, but it didn't crack the top ten. The same for Kazoku Keikaku.

That stagnant release week helped keep games like Sengoku Basara 3 and Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X near the top of the charts, making for a relatively unexciting week, sales competition-wise.

Japan's Weekly Sales w/e Aug 8, 2010

Last week's sales champ, Sengoku Basara 3, was soundly defeated by Namco's latest Tales game, which draws upon the powers of a big PSP install base and Japan's love of doe-eyed anime-style characters. How well did Tales of Phantasia do?Media Create

Well enough to outsell Wii Party! Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X moved an impressive, first place spot-winning 108,000 copies during its debut week, enough to force Wii Party to settle for second. Not bad for a PSP remake... of a remake? Honestly, I'm thoroughly confused by just how deeply the remakes go for Tales of Phantasia. Any superfans that can provide more insight?

There are a handful of other new entries on this week's chart, including the sexy-sounding StormLover, Tetris Party Premium and the "special edition" release of Assassin's Creed II.

Media Create Japanese Sales Charts week ending Aug 01, 2010

What does Japan like this week? Feudal Japanese fantasy battles in the form of Sengoku Basara 3 and rhythm games starring vocaloid Hatsune Miku. Yep, shirtless samurai warriors and sexy singing robots are just what Japan needed more of.
Media Create

The PlayStation 3 wins this week's software war, thanks to Capcom's Sengoku Basara 3, which moved close to a quarter million copies to Japanese gamers. (We knew the series as Devil Kings when it made its Western debut.) The Wii version of that game also charted, moving 50,000 copies. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2nd, the previously mentioned vocaloid-starring rhythm game from Sega, sold 241,000 copies to PSP owners.

Last week's champ, Wii Party, is still hangin' tough, crossing the half-million mark this week. A handful of new debuts, from Metal Max 3 to the latest Ys game, also appear in the top ten.

Japanese Sales Charts Week Ending 25July 2010

After taking a breather from dominating Japan's sales charts, Nintendo's Wii Party continues to party hard at the top of the list. Wii Party could be a great game, so why shouldn't it sell really well? Media Create

Well, it didn't have much strong competition this week, with PSP role-playing game Fate/Extra coming closest to threatening Wii Party's first place finish. The rest of the stuff is purely Japanese fare, with the exception of Ninety Nine Nights II. It debuted unimpressively in 17th place. Not surprising for an Xbox 360 game, but surely not good news for publisher Konami.

Games like the latest Inazuma Eleven, Fire Emblem and Super Mario Galaxy 2 continue to sell well overseas. To see how your favorite Japanese train simulator or portable game show performed, read on.

Media Create's Japanese Sales Charts w/e July 11, 2010

Nintendo's newest mini-game good time, Wii Party, makes it debut in Japan, handily defeating its competitors with a strong first week. Does the Wii have a new multi-million-seller on its hands?Media Create

With 235,000 copies of Wii Party sold in the first week, it doesn't seem unreasonable for the first-party game to be well on its way to cross the million sold mark. While Super Mario Galaxy 2 may be slowly approaching the million mark after nearly two months on the chart—it debuted with 340,000 in sales during week one—the Wii's more
casual-focused games tend to fare a bit better.

The people who make Professor Layton games and the sharp-looking Studio Ghibli game Ni no Kuni have another hit on their hands, the latest sports-themed RPG, Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai e no Chousen!!, Japan's bestselling game.Media Create

Both versions of Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai e no Chousen!! for the Nintendo DS toppled last week's champ, the Xbox 360 game Monster Hunter Frontier. That previously bestselling Capcom game slips way down to 14th place on this week's chart, illustrating the staying power of Xbox 360 games. Japan would appear to prefer games like the latest taiko drumming game Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Dororon! Youkai Daikessen!! and fighting game Blazblue: Continuum Shift, two chart topping new debuts.

A smattering of other new debuts appear throughout this week's Media Create sales chart. Do your eyes and brain a favor and see what they are.

New Debuts Flood Japanese Charts - w/e June 27, 2010

So, a Xbox 360 game rests the top of the Japanese sales charts.. that Xbox 360 game is, of course, a Monster Hunter title, the only game powerful enough to defeat Love
Plus+
.

command over the Japanese language.

There's at least one new PlayStation 3 game on the list, the debut of Trauma Team in Japan, a new Tamagotchi title and a new contender for longest game title ever. That'd be Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo: Machiteba Tengoku! Makereba Jigoku! Ryoutsuryuu Ikkakusenkin Daisakusen!
